Microscopic Art

NanoArt is an emerging form of artwork in which artists use nanotechnology to create micro/nanosculptures through chemical, physical, and natural processes. To display, and even see these minuscule pieces of artwork, powerful microscopes are used. One pioneer of NanoArt, Cris Orfescu, has created a website used to spread this innovative form of art. Orfescu also started an international competition that encourages scientists and artists the world over to participate in this new form of art, as well as to discover great new artists. One of the goals of nanoartists is to spread awareness to the public about nanotechnology. This, many artists feel, will be a great way for people to learn just how nanotechnology can impact our lives. Many pieces of art that I have viewed have been impressive and I agree with Orfescu that this form of artwork is a great way to introduce others to nanotechnology.
