Torrentspy Blocks US IPs

In light of class discussion on sharing and distribution of artwork on the Internet, I thought this article was both interesting and relevant. Torrentspy, a popular search client for BitTorrent files, was recently ordered by the MPAA to give the IP address of United States users so as the MPAA could prosecute against said users. Rather than give in, Torrentspy banned all US IPs from it’s search database. While this may irk some users, I see it as Torrentspy’s and the Internet community in general taking a stand against the MPAA and other such organizations devoted to squeezing every last cent out of the public. Good for them.
