Research funded by the US Air Force Research Laboratory has come up with a breakthrough battery, one that lasts some 30 odd years. The reason is that this battery uses a betavolic power cell, which means that it’s made from radioactive material. But unlike other batteries and nuclear power plants these batteries end their lives completely inert and non-toxic. The batteries work fairly similar to a solar cell in which that beta electrons are collected from when a neutron decays into a proton and causes a forward bias in the semiconductor, this produces energy. Also because it is a non-thermal reaction your laptop or device will actually stay cooler. This is a pretty significant advance in the world of electronics especially considering that for once radiation is the cleaner of two choices we have. The only problem of course would be that our electronics only have use full life of about 4 years max, which really seems like waste of 26 years of battery life.
