Researchers from Tufts University have been developing a device that can read people’s feelings of numbness or frustration. By using light and special laser diodes, it can monitor blood flow around the brain, which indirectly tells you how much stress the person is taking. The technology is called functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) and researchers claim it to be “safe, portable, non-invasive and can be implemented wirelessly.” In practice, It sounds like an interesting gadget to test out anywhere people get burned out for doing too much tedious work on the computer. On the other hand, I can’t imagine your boss constantly monitoring what you think about your work. Being able to see what we’re doing on our computers is enough.
