Daniel Rozen’s Mechanical Mirrors

Daniel Rozen’s Wooden Mirror’s use sophisticated camera systems, computer software, and electric motors to instantly reflect whatever is within the camera’s view. This new take on a item most of use everyday and instead of the checking for stray hairs or food in our teeth we usually use a mirror for, we can really see ourselves in a brand new way, reflected in a material that is not reflective by nature. The sound of this interactive object is also an important part of it’s effect. The sounds of the motors rotating the wood create a sound this is a direct result of movement by the viewers. Viewers of this piece often attempt to be as still as possible to remove both the motion and the sound of this object, furthering the depth of the installation. On Daniel’s site he has numerous other works with mirrors, so those interested should definitely check it out, although personally I can’t wait to experience one in person, and add a new twist to the common mirror self photo for social networking sites.
