Head tracking using the Nintendo Wii

Although I wasn’t in class on Monday and missed the general explanation for this blogging part of the class, I think what I’m posting should be alright.

Seeing this video gets me very excited about the future of video games. Owning my own Nintendo Wii, I really wish that I had the brains to figure this kind of stuff out. Since it’s far too complicated for me, I’ll leave it up to Johnny Lee and just hope that eventually I get to experience things like this.

Basically, this video shows what he has done using his computer and his Wii to make what the player sees on the screen come to life in a new way. Instead of the images on the screen being 3D on a 2D screen, his software makes the images move in relation to how the player moves his or her head. The way he explains it is like the TV becomes a window, if you get closer to the window you will see more through it, if you step left while looking out the window you will see more to the right. Watch the video and it will all make perfect sense.
