Giselle Beiguelman is a Brazilian new media artist and essayist. Her project Poetrica took place in Galeria Vermelho, Sao Paulo from October to November of 2003. The project allowed individuals to submit electronic messages via the web or cell phones that were then simultaneously displayed on three electronic billboards in a downtown, urban environment. Messages were converted into non-fonetic fonts so that there public display was effectively code. Participants in the project received notification of when their message would be displayed. The project was shown as part of a digital poetry exhibition, p0es1s. Digitale Poesie, in Berlin. The project addresses new cultural modes of communication as well as the public inclination for both display and privacy.
