This photos shows a “Bio-Art” project by Adam Zaretsky that involved Zaretsky playing Engelbert Humperdinck music next to a sample of E. Coli in order to find out whether or not sounds and/or vibrations influenced the growth of bacteria. This art form is very interesting to me because of the certain aspect of not having control over part of your project. It’s one thing to be making a painting or writing a song, where you have total control over everything involved, but when you incorporate these biological factors it becomes much more interesting to see how the artist can control his or her work. Not every artist has to be extremely smart, especially when it comes to biology. But, when it comes to bio-art, you really have to know what is going on, and I’m pretty sure I could never do that.
