Indoor Waterfall

Ever since I learned about the true nature of Niagara Falls and how it runs at less than it’s full capacity in order to preserve it’s present location, I’ve often wondered how the general public would view this powerful force of nature if it were allowed flow as it should.

With this sculpture, the very idea of controlling the waterfall is presented directly to the viewer. While the viewer must turn on the switch to activate the sculpture, how much more different is that from how we control the falls themselves? I also enjoy the open relationship between the sculpture and the source of it’s power, the plug in the wall. Given the argument that controlling Niagara falls preserves it’s present location and to maintains the energy that is received from it, would viewers feel more obligated to turn on the sculpture and receive all of it’s benefits or leave it in it’s natural form.
