New Camera Technology Could End Movie Piracy

If you’ve ever had a friend tell you they’ve got the newest movie out in theaters downloaded onto their computer, there’s a good chance that it’s just a version filmed with a video camera. Although this isn’t a very good quality at all, it’s the most common way for internet pirates to see the newest releases. The Georgia Institute of Technology’s College of Computing has been working on a way to stop these pirates from filming in the theaters. Their setup will scan for any type of digital camera and the theater and neutralize it, using sensors, lighting equipment, a projector, and a computer. If detected, the camera in the audience will be flooded with white light rather than the images on the computer screen.
