Researchers are devising a new distributed software platform that uses things like GPS, accelerometer, Bluetooth and microphone sensors on your phone to a create a rich collection of road data for personalized trips. After downloading an application to you phone you are allowed to access a specialized map with pertinent information regarding potholes, speed bumps, honking cars, etc. This is an interesting idea as it is not always the shortest route that gets you there the safest.
