Cell Phones Project Cinema

So we all know that watching a movie on your tiny little phone blows. So here comes “Pico Projectors” to the rescue, offering you pocket size projectors to attach to your phone. Expected to hit the market later this year, these external projectors are just the precursors to those that will eventually be built into your phones. Microvision Inc. demonstrated a prototype of their projector at the CTIA Wireless industry show recently and said that, although the prototype is currently the size of two full size ipods, by the time it goes on sale later this year it will be 30 % smaller. This unit differs from other projectors in that it shines blue, red, and green lasers on a rapidly moving, 1mm square mirror, which in return paints the picture line by line, at a speed so fast it blurs into one image. Using lasers allows the pico projectors to run cooler then standard projectors and dispenses the need to use fans or vents. Estimated battery life 2.5 hours. Estimated increase in phone price with projector built in $100. Estimated number of teenagers who would rather hang out in their bedrooms projecting movies, than spend time with their parents, 99%.
