The Eyeborg was designed by Adam Montandon for his artist friend, Neil Harbisson (pictured here wearing the device). Harbisson was born with a rare hereditary condition of achromatopsia. And one of the effects of this condition is extreme colorblindness, so Neil is only able to see in gray scale.
The Eyeborg runs software that recognizes hues and converts them into sound, allowing Harbisson to hear color. Originally, the Eyeborg only recognized 6 colors, but it now covers all 360 degrees of the color wheel. Harbisson boasts being the first official cyborg, but I bet that’s arguable.
