The concept of “Sharing the Meal” is to create more communications around the Chinese round table and stimulate better traditional table manners by sharing food with people with vivid animations. There are five seats and five plates of food. Each seat has a sensor and there is also a rotation seansor underneath the turntable. When people sit down and rotate the turntable, this action inspires the animated characters to come up. For instance, When A sits down in front of the vegetable dish and starts to rotate the rotray table, a rabbit appears in front of A’s table. At the same time, there is a carrot shows up in front of B. When the turntable is rotated, the rabbit tracks the turntable’s direction and jumps until it hits the carrot. Therefore, person A has shared the dish to person B and also enjoyed the amusing animations during the meal time. This design combines new interactive ways to bring up conversation and also keep the old tradition of gentle table manners with respect. If I have a table like this at home, I am sure I will forget to have food and play the moving animations on the table all the time! Haha!
