Mark Yim is a professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. He does robotic research with the Grasp Lab. This is his very recent project called the CK bot. Not much detail of the information is revealed online except for this video because his work is still an ongoing project. It is also being featured in public showcases of global modern technological innovation events such as the WIRED NextFest which is currently happening in our very own Chicago, at Millenium Park. It is FREE and OPEN FOR THE PUBLIC. But you’d better hurry though, because the showcase event only lasts till October 12! I’m assuming more information of the CK bot can be found there on it’s actual performance. So, hope to see you there!
Although the CK bot was made with the thought of innovation against the tendency of machines being obsolete, this second video reveals the other purpose of which the bot can be used for, which is Technological Expressionism. In this video, Mr. Yim successfully managed to use his CK bots to express himself doing his own unique style of a “sumo kick.” It can easily become a very cool entertaining toy that people can interact or express their feelings with.
