Jeppe Hein’s Big Mirror Ball

Jeppe Hein, Big Mirror Ball

In the midst of robots and other complex machinery, this ball intrigued me. This large, metal sphere is not merely interesting as a sculptural piece, it moves around the area it is in. Whenever a person’s presence is felt by this ball, sensors triggers a response. This response is its random movement that its uncontrollable by the people in the room. Interestingly enough, this thoroughly discusses the relationship and interactions among the different viewers in the room. I like the minimalist feel of this piece and think it would be neat to see in person.
