Jen Lewin has being working on the “Light Harps” from 1999 to 2008, the last 12 years. The harps are installations using movement and a laser light to trigger a sound. The harps varied from art installations, to stage performance installations and large outdoor sculptures. The light harp is an interactive instrumant played when the beams are broken. The beams are not activated by on off switches. When a person breaks the beam, the harp is able to tell how fast the person is moving and the height of their hand. The information allows Jen’s software to create a complex and soft sounds.
The interactive installation shows progress in todays technology. jen Lewin does not have a simple on/off switch but a complex instrument. Her instrument is able to tell the users speed and hand height to make a beautiful harp noise. The instalatiion shows future progress on interactive peices.
