Creative Switch: Light Up Tie

For my creative switch project, I was influenced to create something that would standout. Often at parties there is a theme of attire. I wanted to create a tie that lights up when I put it on, but turns off when I take it off. I could wear this tie at a black like party or to standout at such social gathering.

Materials:

-Clip on tie
-Button Up Shirt
-4 LED lights
-120 Ohm Resister
-9V Battery
-Tape
-a Spring
-Copper Tape
-Battery Clip
-Varies Wires
-Sodder
-Hot Glue Gun
-Xacto Knife
1st Step
First You Sodder the LEDs together to the resistor. With the Xacto Knife make four small cuts through the big tail of the tie so the 4 LED lights can pop out through the front parallel with the line design on the tie, and a small cut near the top of the small tail of the tie.

2nd Step
On the big tail of the tie, tape the battery to the center of the back. After that clip on the battery pack
3rd Step
Sodder the negative wire of the battery to the resistor. Sodder the LED wire to an extended wire that connects to the bottom base of the clip on tie. Sodder the positive wire to an extended wire that will be connected to the clip on the tie.

4th Step

Tape the loose wires to the back of the tie, so the wires can stay hidden behind the tie, after that you want to work on the switch of this circuit.

5th Step
Hot glue a spring and the ground wire to the base of the clip on the tie. After you’re done with the ground wire, take the positive wire and weave it through the clip of the tie. To ensure that the circuit will work when closed, you want to wrapped the clip and wire together with copper tape and secured it with a hot glue gun.

6th Step
After your tie is done take a buttoned shirt. Make small cuts behind the top button with an Xacto Knife. Strip apart the wire and separate the strands of wire. Use the small strands of wire to thread through the holes of the button and through the cuts behind the button. When you close the clip of the tie, make sure the positive and negative ends are touching the wired area on and behind the button.

7th Step

Clip on your tie and light up the party.
