Janet Gardiff

In Janets works she really makes her audience feel as if the situation that they are listening to is actually going on while they are there. She makes her audience feel a certain way while she is talking to them and telling them exactly what they should be thinking. I like how by hearing her speak, it makes you feel like it is actually real, like what she is saying is actually happening. Her peices show a true sense of reality.

As I was listening to “Pianorama” the two speakers on top, one resembling Georges voice and the other Janets. It tells the viewer exactly what was going on. You can see the piano playing as George thinks of different keys to play. She has put a sense of realism to her works by having the audience hear and see what once was happening at the piano.

Another peice of Janets called, “Telephone/Time” you hear a converstaion going on between her and a scientist. The telephone resembles the conversation between the two. Giving the audience a sense of the past. I think that what Janet wanted the audience to get from this art work is the sense of time we are all going through. In the conversation she is having with the scientist, they talk a lot about time. That each person is gradually going through life without even realizing it. I believe that is true for “Pianorama” as well. Listening to her voice gives a sense of the past. I feel like it is showing moments in time, that we are getting to live back again through her work.
