Watching the John Ippolito video, Hacking for Fun and Profit had very interesting concepts. One of those concepts consisted of talking about today’s day of age and technology. In the years previous to this technology era, there was no computers and the only way you had to do your communication and learning was by hand, book, or always confronting your teacher and your students, but nowadays finding your answers in just a click away. Just thinking how easy it is now to simply type a question on the computer and finding full or quick solutions made learning much easy, but it became too easy to cheat that is what stood out to me. Technology is now restricted especially because of this in the classrooms and with what you do in education today. The amazing thing that astounded me also was that we never really thought much about how times have changed and how negatively the people teaching and people in charge of education have been handling this. This goes through all levels of effecting people and it even affects me if using technology is how we grew up on, and that we are very limited when we use it. Using it has it’s restrictions and that is another one of the concepts that also interested me.
Whenever we post or add art or music on the internet that stuff becomes immediately copyrighted which started in the 1980’s. Copyrighted makes the artists suffer if they become inspired by art of any kind as it puts a immediate halt when trying to use or be creative with it. They need permissions and go through lawyers and a whole bunch of stuff that takes a very long time. If they didn’t do this they would be sued a ridiculous amount of money for producing any type of artwork. So what intrigued me was the existence of the Creative Common’s License that allowed people to use people’s work for their own benefit without being sued. Creating just for fun has it’s limits but thanks to the Creative Common’s License artists can be all that they can be and they can even modify their own license so that the users can take advantage of being creative to the fullest. This affects me a lot as for example, if I accidentally draw or do something that is equivalent to some other artist, that would be a lot of trouble. I would suffer as other people have with the copyright issue. They higher ups over copyright have no mercy to students or any freelance artists of any professions. This made me appreciate for the creation of the Creative Common’s License and become more aware to what truly is at hand when copyright is in play all over the internet in today’s age.
