Eliasson is known for his sculptures and large scale installations. In his art pieces, he uses elemental materials such as light, water, air temperature, etc…to enhance the audience’s experience when viewing his work. Eliasson he has worked with Einar Thorsteinn for a number of his projects who is an architect and geometry expert. He has used Thorsteinn’s knowledge of geometry and space in many of his art works, usually showing in those with shaped lamps and even tunnels. His work is highly interesting to look at and appeals to the viewers senses of sight, touch, and sometimes even smell, depending on the element he chooses to work with as his medium.
One work that was interesting to me was The Weather Project. I find it amazing how it seems as though the light he creates is the sun and even though the “shadow” are just your reflection, it’s like seeing your own shadow in its man-made world.
The next work that Eliasson created was The Facade of Harpa. I find the shapes and colors interesting in how he made it seem like a pattern of crystals. The chrome-like color and varying shades of light blue really pull it all together and I feel as though I could walk around and stare at this art for hours.
