1) New Media Art is a genre of art that incorporates the digital world into the artists’ pieces. Internet art, digital art, interactive art and robotic art can all be categorized as New Media Art.

2) The first art movement that preceded the New Media Art movement was the Dada movement. The other movement was the Pop Art movement. Dada movement practices carried over to the New Media Art movement, such as photomontages, collages, and performance in the pieces. They also overlap in the idea that they both used and encouraged the use or practice of experimental approaches to doing things or making statements.

The Pop Art movement influenced the New Media Art movement in the idea that they both refer to commercial culture in their works.

3) The Creative Commons is an interesting idea, however I believe that only a certain kind of artist can or will really benefit from this idea. I do believe that New Media Artist can benefit from the idea of the Creative Commons because a part of the New Media Art movement is about manipulating other works and the Creative Commons provides easy access to manipulatable works. However, I do believe that in a design field, this idea of sharing is completely useless. Designers’ works, whether it may be graphic or industrial, are normally meant to be one-of-a-kind and not copied. Therefore, I believe that this idea does not benefit designers. Lastly, I believe that in the classroom setting, something like this would be beneficial because it would allow students to learn from files or works that have been created from others.
