Philip Beesley

Hylozoic Soil
Phillip Beesleys art work “Hylozoic Soil” is an art peice that without even understanding what it is or what he was trying to get the audience to feel from it, I felt it is absolutly intriguing and I was completly fascinated by the detail and originality of this art peice. As people walk by sensors detect the presence of people which then makes it light up.  However, the downfall to this art peice is that it doesn’t look very artistic. The peice looks like a spiderweb, which I feel takes away from the overall peice. Also, If you look at it without the lights turning on it could be a completly different peice.
Orgone Reef
The art peice “Orgone Reef” is a peice that is suppost to change the perception a a persons view on structures and how one builds it. It responds back to the viewer as they move away from the peice, which changes the viewers thoughts on our relationsip with objects we build. I like how the artist drew inspirtation from nature, the shapes of the lights help me imagine an actual coral reef. I feel like since he captured the form of it, it makes it seem more real. What I find that is a downfall to this peice is that it is just a bunch of lights on the floor, it looks like someone was to lazy to hang up christmas lights. I feel like if the artist placed them in a different way it would be more appealing to the viewers.
