One of the most intriguing topics that Jon Ippolito mentioned in his lecture was the idea of the Creative Commons. I believe that the idea behind the Creative Commons initiative is ground breaking for the New Media Arts world. Like stated in the animation, it takes out the middleman and allows people access to works that the original creator is willing to share the rights to, in a “one-stop-shop” format. I think that it is and will play a major role in the growth of New Media Arts because artists that do not or would not originally have the means to get in contact with the original artist now have a very accessible database of created works. This essentially allows all levels of artists the ability to access works or at least easily find the answer to whether or not a particular piece is open-source, so to say.
Another interesting resource that allows sharing of ideas is the Open Art Network that Ippolito created himself. This focuses more on pinpointing and sharing the original source. By having the original source or file allows the second party or manipulator easier access to the original design or code, depending on what kind of piece it may be. This is a response to the Creative Commons idea which allows even easier access to works that the original creator is willing to share by sharing the original file they have used to make their work opposed to just letting it be known that they are allowing others to manipulate it in any way, shape or form.
