Jesse Schell

1)What Jesse Schell talked about in the video is something that I
never think about like how the games can be extend to many purposes, and it
will be really amazing if what Schell said can be practiced in the future. Many
of the examples that Schell said are seem plausible in the future, for example,
there will be a lot of sensors in our life and they will record and measure
every thing we do every day, and the game-based system can change our life.
Saving fuel or taking bus can get points given by government for tax relief,
these are reasonable possibilities, because it is important to save energy now
and as the world keep develop everyone should pay more attention to the
environment, so it can encourage people to do those things by giving points to
those actions. Others like watch certain TV program or
advertisement and you can get point for this. Having GPS, screen and internet
on the cereal boxes, you can play games on the boxes while you are eating
breakfast and you link to the Facebook via the Internet, and you can get points
for all of these by the cereal company, so you can collect the points for another
cereal or something. These possibilities are seem plausible if the games keep permeating
to our life and I think the way games system works can change the people’s behavior
if games design in good ways as what Schall said in his presentation.
In the other hand, getting points by influencing the dream we
have, digital tattoo and doing good job on parenting are seem implausible to
me. Because it is and easy to influence people’s dream simply by machine, or maybe
there is a technology for this that I don’t know, but it seem impossible for
now. And the digital tattoo seem a bit exaggerate, because I think it is hard
to have a digital ink which can change the pattern and having an eye sensor on
the tattoo it seem not probable.
2) I think that as
the society and technology continue to develop and make progress, the media design
which apply to the animated billboard can be more creative and beyond
imagination. The billboards have a lot of influences to people, for example,
the advertisements on the screen can keep embedding in our mind by passing the
screen every day. The city screen also connects the community together like the
Blinkenlights project in the Living Skins, the installation allowed people to email
or phone the simple animation to it or even play pong with other people. This
was how the Blinkenlights had interaction with passersby and connected people closer.
In the future, I think there will be more creations that can communicate with
people more directly like the Building that breathe which was mentioned in the
Living Skin, and by collaborating different designers in many fields, the all
kinds of data can be manipulated to more creative projects that communicate directly
to people and bring communities closer.
3)According to Jane
McGonigal, gamers have more trust, bond and collaboration in others and optimism,
because in the game they trust people working as a team to solve problems, in
the game world they always can a achieve bigger goals than in the real life and
they will get more feedbacks or stronger bond in trust than in the virtual
world. These advantages can be applied into city screen like gather the
community closer or make people make more trust and faith in their life.
