Casey Reas, in his presentation,
speaks about order and chaos which is reflected in much of his artwork. His art
is taking chaotic elements and implying an order to create his art. These
chaotic elements come from organic pieces such as human vision and spreading
cancer cells to less organic chaos like television signals and music history.
In a reliable source I took from Wikipedia, Casey Reas as an artist was
described as “a conceptual and minimal and
his works explore ideas through the contemporary lens of software.” In
his piece Signal to Noise, Reas uses
terrestrial television signals as raw material into and creates a collage. Signal to Noise fractures and distorts
contemporary information into new data structures as described on his website.
In another piece he uses algorithms from a dice roll. Each roll determines a different
aspect on the composition. His work is expressed in different media including;
natural language, machine code, computer simulations, and static images.

I found
his work very interesting and was surprised by a lot of the results of his
pieces. I think they have a simple beauty to it but a very complex idea behind them.
It is intriguing that he was able to create these things with his ideas and I
think it scratches the surface on what you can do with ordered and chaotic
elements. Some of my favorite work that he did was the process Compendium 2004.
I think the pieces are very visually appealing and it is unrecognizable like
much of his work is.
