Learning about artists in this class has really opened my eyes to a whole new way of thinking that seems to be common in the New Media world. The artists that we read about don’t just make art with a subject and a background and thats it. They think about every aspect that goes into their art piece and make sure that there are layers of meaning either in the piece itself or in the pieces that make it up. Conceptual ideas become much more real with these artists and especially the ones in this article. One of my favorite pieces were the flowers made from spam mail because not only did you have this beautiful art piece but there are so many other things going on. These artists create meaning using technique which I find hard to do sometimes in more traditional art making. I want to challenge myself to create work that not only is visually appealing and has meaning in itself but also in the way that its made.
