Art Against Information (Marcin Wieczorek)

     Three Dimensional Data

Reading the Art Against Information article was a way to look at the world differently. In today’s world, everyone relies on phones, tablets, computers, and many electronics, but only a few know about the functionalities of these objects. Behind each interface, lays a complicated data system, which can be used to create innovative works of art.
By reading this article, I was able to explore some of the data that sits underneath the surface of technology. One data project that fascinated me was Alex Dragulescu’s “Spam Works”, which uses spam email to generate three dimensional forms. The spam email creates origami-like figures that resemble architectural projects. It is so fascinating that such useless, annoying, and harmful data can be used to create such beautiful and creative artworks. Alex used something that is overlooked and turned it into something that everyone should see. One suggestion that I have is to create these sculptures using 3D printers. By printing out these spam sculptures, people can interact with them and see the virtual world come to life.
