Jannet Cardiff
Jannet Cardiff was born and raised in Brussels, Ontario, Canada. After receiving her MVA from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, she met her future husband and collaborator George Burer Miller. She started off as a photographer and printmaker, and most of her early work was silkscreening. Eventually Cardiff developed her style and began adding sequencing, narrative, and sound to her work. One of the fist works of Cardiff was The Whispering Room, a dark room in which there were 15 speakers and as the visitor moved around the room, the project played a slow-motion film. In 1999, she created her fist video walk, where the participants had to tell exactly what they heard through headphones or saw on the videocamera.
