As I was reading this I caught myself agreeing with many of the points that were brought up. Much of this reading reminded me of some of my CS classes. In particular it reminded me of what one of my professors would say. He would say it’s all just bits. He was referring to the way that information is stored in memory in a computer. He would tell us this because at a low level of computation, it is all just 1’s and 0’s. And with only these two things we are able to represent pictures, videos, music, and much more. What I am trying to say is that data can be represented in many different ways. A series of bits can be anything depending how it is interpreted.
However I begin to have differences in opinions when the author starts explaining a particular work. This work is Alex Dragulescu’s Spam Architecture. Although I do enjoy this piece’s aesthetic qualities, it is the fact that it does not show or provide a way to understand how these forms were made that makes me have some doubt. I also do not think that this adds some type of mystery, it seems like an excuse to not explain more technical details. I feel that the algorithm/method of mapping this data is just as important as the final product and can be seen as a piece of art itself.
