Jesse Schell video (Marcin Wieczorek)

1.) What is plausible and what is implausible about the future Jesse Schell describes and most importantly, make a clear case why?

After watching the video, I think it is plausible that technology will get so cheap that over time, sensors will be everywhere. These senors will be able to detect our movements and help us in unthinkable ways. With technology getting much cheaper and more powerful, machines will be used in many aspects of the world. When Motorola came out with the expensive and revolutionary Razr flip phone, its thin make-up, improved audio, and 2 mega pixel camera shook the world as it went out to become on of the best selling phones of the time. In today’s world, technology tremendously improved and phones like the Motorola Razr are a thing of the past. Cameras have become cheaper, processors became more powerful, and technology has become more reliable. With this in mind, I believe that sensors will become cheaper and more powerful to the point where they are used in our phones, computers, or even homes. We can already see that auto manufacturers began to place sensors in cars to make parking easier and create awareness on the streets. I believe that it is very plausible that sensors will become a larger part of our lives.
2.) How do you think current city screens and future ones will factor into a future where we continue to be constant contributors of data?
I think that current and future city screens will  display a wide range of advertisements, news coverages, weather reports, sports coverages, and many other events. With many billboards and screens already in place, the sharing of information has already begun. Some of these screens include lottery billboards, fountains at Millennium Park, and skyscraper displays. The screens at Millennium Park bring people together to enjoy a fun and interactive display. With cheaper technology in the future, screens like those in Millennium Park will be erected all over the world. As technology improves, I also believe that these new displays will alienate and empower us. Cheaper technology will enable more billboards to be put up, which will cause much more distraction. With more distractions, people will cause more accidents and fatalities on the road. I think that in the future more buildings will be fitted with technology and be able to create displays.
According to CBC News this has already happened on a building in Philadelphia. Using hundreds of LED lights, organizers have recreated the famous game of Pong. Another example of the use of current technology to create a display is when the city of Chicago displayed a “Go Sox” display on one of the Chicagoan building. This low quality display was a great way to communicate and unite all fans of sports. I believe that with improving technology, displays will become larger, more vibrant and increase in quality.

3.) How might gaming factor into this (or not) ?

I do not think that gaming will play as big of a factor as described by Jesse Schell. I do think that manufacturers will create new and interactive games that will persuade the customers to  buy their products but it is hard for me to believe that technology will be placed on simple objects as cereal boxes. I think that placing so much tracking technology will infringe privacy. This is why I think that gaming will not make it to every aspect of our lives.
