Artist Research: Jim Campbell & Nam June Paik

I selected Experiments in Touching Color by Jim Campbell because I like the idea of interaction in the concept. In the exhibit, a user selects a single pixel, out of a series of moving images, by the touch of his/her hand which causes the screen to change into a corresponding single dynamically changing color. I really like the concept of art that changes in response to a viewers actions, and this sort of change initiated by the touch of the hand seems to be a very intimate experience.

Electronic Superhighway by Nam June Paik caught my eye instantly because I’m very attracted to maps. The neon colors used for constructing the USA map are very appealing to the eye and, in tandem with the various TV screens, create a very overwhelming sense of light that reflects the fast moving and surreal nature of the information age.
