Vuk Cosic is one of the principal members of net.art, a group that works in the realm of Internet art. Cosic is known for converting pixels one would see in a standard photo into ASCII code. For instance, Cosic recreated the famous porno “Deep Throat,” in ASCII code. His work seems to accentuate values of light and dark to show movement rather than showing lines. In his film, the viewer definitely gets a huge feel for the movements of the actors, even to those who haven’t seen the original film, but the mannerisms aren’t always clear. It’s almost as if Cosic was trying to give the famous porno more of an abstract and gestural quality to leave more to the viewer’s imagination.
Cary Peppermint is a New Media artist from New York. He co-founded Ecoarttech, an environmental art collaborative, with Leila Nadir. Ecoarttech explores the relationship between nature and technology, and challenges the notion that the two are supposed to be separate. For instance, one of their projects, basecamp.exe, is an installation of an idea of a modern campsite, incorporating both digital and natural materials to encourage visitors to explore and interact with their environment. Another goal is to help visitors to appreciate the nature in their homes and backyards instead of thinking of “the environment” as a wild and faraway place.
