NEW MEDIA PROJECT CONCEPTS;
All ideas are for the beginning of the final project.

Sculpture that is reactionary to volume levels and that incorporates large and small LEDS attached to it that exceeds at least two feet. In this project I would like to push my mechanical construction skills more than my programming skills, which to be honest are very small, and so I would like to stick to a reasonable programming ambition; a reaction to volume at high volumes that has a large enough breadth to produce many different colors or combinations of colors within the sculpture. I would perhaps like to incorporate patterns or perhaps a system which turns different parts of the sculpture on based on the volume levels in conjunction with the color alternation. I will use LEDs, basic construction supplies for the physical structure of the sculpture, and the arduino to complete this project. Note; I would also like to apply a layer of clear caulking to the finished project so a concern for me design wise is repairs and miswiring. I think this project would be a culmination of my interest in sculpture with a budding skill in the new media arts meaning I would feel confident as well as learn.

Soundblanket; A blanket which has the same function as the sculpture above but could have a more playful and wider use. I would sew into the blanket a design of LEDs which would produce different colors and light patterns at various sound levels. I would make sure that the LEDs were secure and that they were flexible so that the blanket could be used for forts/concerts/family use or any other activities in which the users would find the object useful. Its main purpose for myself would be to put behind my band/solo performances to enhance the overall experience. My concerns would be whether the wiring would hold up, or whether I would have the proficiency in sewing to make this possible. It also demands a much greater space that I might not have access to.

A rewiring of an old keyboard to function as a new synthesizer or instrument, and then a musical composition using the device. I know that this project may not be the most creative suggestion but I am extremely interested in pursuing the rewiring of old music making machines to make new ones. I am also very passionate about music composition and new instruments and sounds so it may be the most fulfilling project out of all of them, but not the most creative. I would use logic or garageband to record the music and would use based on my understanding of the deconstruction/reconstruction process as many sounds/instruments that I could.
