The process:
What inspired this face?
You know when you take a 9 volt battery and put it on the tip of your tongue, and it gives you a bit of a weird buzz-y feeling? Well that’s where the idea for this face circuit came from. As you can see here, it’s more that just doodling on paper and having it light up, but the process is pretty simple, easy, and kinda fun to do.
So first off, here’s what you will need:
-
Conductive Ink(either from Agic Circuit Marker or Circuit Scribe Pen)
-
Photo print paper(epson)
-
2 LEDs 3mm
-
9 volt battery
-
Clear Tape(or clear adhesive)
-
Sharpie marker/pen
-
Color Highlighter
Now let’s go into 5 easy steps to make these fun electric faces:
Step 1
Plan out the circuit drawing.
Think about how you want your face to look. In this case, we’ll focus on a silly face with a tongue sticking out. You’ll want to have lines that both shape the face and follow a current for that same face to light up.
Make sure to plan for gaps in the circuit, these gaps will be where the components will go.
Step 2
You have your design, now you can use conductive ink to draw out design.
Agic Circuit Markers are the best for conductivity but only work best on Photo print paper.
Circuit Scribe Pens can go on normal paper and are easier to control, but you’ll need to draw out a large enough line for good conductivity. Here I used a little of both, using the pen for an outline of the circuit and the marker to fill it in.
Remember to leave gaps for the LEDs and Battery.
Step 3
Use Highlighter and Sharpie to add colors and details.
This is an optional step, but it can really bring in life into your drawing circuit.
However, the details you place down must not disrupt the circuit.
Step 4
Fill in gaps in circuit with components.
You can bend the wires of the LEDs to follow the path of the circuit for both a clean look and better conductivity.
Attach LEDs to circuit with clear adhesive.
Ground wire of LEDs should follow same direction as the circuit.
Step 5:
Test circuit.
Repeat steps 1-5 if circuit design does not function or looks appealing.
Alright, you’ve made a silly face that lights up. Have fun with it.
