Materials:

Hardcover Book

Utility Knife

Glue

9 Volt battery and battery cap

Two strips of copper wire

LED strip (long enough to wrap around interior of book)

Photo resistor

Soldering iron and solder

1. Use the utility knife to score a 1/2 inch border around the interior of the book. Carefully remove the title page and begin cutting out the book’s interior along the border.

2. Use the soldering iron to solder together the ground (black) side of the battery cap to one of the copper strips. Solder the other end of the copper strip to one leg of the photo resistor. Solder the other leg of the photo resistor to the second copper strip and fix the photo resistor into place in one corner of the book’s interior.

3. Solder the other end of the second copper strip to the ground (-) side of the LED strip. Solder the power (red) side of the battery cap to the power (+) side of the LED strip. 

The circuit is now closed and the LED strip will be lit up.

4. Remove the paper backing from the adhesive side of the LED strip and wrap it around the interior of the book. (Optional- use double sided tape to fix the battery into place in the book).

5. Use glue to replace the title page over the cut out interior. (Optional- cut out a small window for the photo resistor).
