Create an alien plant that lights up when you touch it! This circuit works by using a magnet and copper wire to create a sort of reed circuit. By using the magnet, you are closing the circuit and lighting up the LED.
You’ll need:
Circuit board
battery and connectors
2 long wires
resistor
small LED
copper tape
magnet and glove
pipe cleaner or other covering for wires
Step 1
Connect two wires to positive and negative charges on the bread board. You can mark the positive wire with lipstick or a red pen so you remember. You’ll probably have to strip the wires. If you see that the end of the wires are all over the place, go ahead and solder the wires into a point so that they fit into the board holes.
Step 2
Attach one wire to the resistor. Spin the end of the resistor to the end of the stripped wire.
Step 3
Attach small copper tape to the open end of the resistor, creating a moderately sized square or shape.
Step 4
On the other wire, attach an LED to the end of it.
Step 5
Attach both wires together with the pipe cleaner.
Step 6
Connect both wires the the bread board, as well as the battery supply.
Step 7
Place a magnet in the glove finger. Take the gloved finger that has the magnet and bring it closer to the end of the two wires. This should create a type of reed switch. This switch uses magnets to close the switch, which then lights up the LED.
