Design Principle + Artists
Amy Chen
The following image was created by George Redhawk. Redhawk is a GIF artist that focuses on digital imaging. At the time of this image’s creation Redhawk was losing his vision due to health issues. One of the design principles that fits with this image is reveal. When looking at traditional portraits, we admire what stands before us. We did not take into account that fact that we are able too see things clearly. Redhawk states that when he was going blind, he could not trust what he was actually seeing and what his brain was creating to fill in the gaps.
Another slow design principle that this image goes under is Reflect. Because Redhawk was going blind, he wanted to capture every moment he had while he could still see. He stated that he wanted to give life to the images that he creates. When looking at his creations, they all have a similar visual affect. Redhawk felt that he had regained control of his vision. There is a deep emotion connection between Redhawk and his works.
Another artist that would fit some of the slow design principles is Yoyo. Yoyo, is a freelance artist on social media that incorporates photographs with her own works. One of the slow design principles that would fit her works would be reveal.Throughout Yoyo’s works, there are everyday objects that we would use and see but would tend to ignore. Yoyo incorporates her own art into the photos to give them life.
Another one of the slow design principles that would fit Yoyo’s work would be Engage. Viewers as well as subjects would participate in the photos that Yoyo would take. In these pictures the subject would interact with Yoyo’s creations. People are able to take pictures and share them with her. The would fit with the collaborative aspect of the Engage principle.
