Since the dawn of the smart watch, its only right that our clothing becomes just as smart? I want to make a dress that reacts to stimuli in out every day environment such as heat, light, humidity and radio waves. For this dress specifically, I would want the light sequence to match the patterns of waves that aren’t usually seen. Using bright LED’s and fiber optics, the dress would light up dependent upon how well it picks up a radio wave or sound. It would then generate a fading sequence based on the frequency of the wave. Each LED sequin would be connected by conductive thread and fiber optical filament. This set up would give the soft glow effect, instead of a harsh, and stark lighting contrast. I would use fade lighting sequences to continue this effect. The lights would be under a semi transparent piece of fabric. Initially i wanted to have fiber optic filament woven in the fabric, but I felt that would take away from the soft glow I would want to achieve. If I could achieve this same soft glow and fade sequence with EL wire, I would much like to use that as well. For now I couldn’t find a sensor that could sense heat, that would be wearable friendly. The fabric will be sensitive to UV rays using photochromatic dyes. An option could also to be to add a movement option using a memory alloy called nitinol. This would allow for the fabric or lights to move on their own when activated by a current.
For this project I would need:
