CLOUD by Caitlind r.c. Brown & Wayne Garrett

I refuse to gloss over my thoughts and I will not hide the idea that I struggled to connect with the reading. Art to me exist in a specific realm of my existence as raw expression of  “essence” or “being”, That which cannot be expressed in any other form.  To give “that without words” a way to manifest itself. The need to critique , classify, or judge, seems almost sinful. I look forward to expanding my understanding as I observe the thoughts of others.

Thus, I decided to post about a work of art that both fits firmly in the category of interactive and speaks volumes to me on multiple level. CLOUD by Brown and Garrett utilizes roughly 6,000 collected light bulbs to form a cloud, of which, has a series of chains that turns on or off one light bulb at a time. A single individual can experience the sculpture and interact with it. Many people can independently experience the sculpture and interact with it. Not until a group comes together and works as one does the true potential of the sculpture come to life. This phenomenon is the true “art” of the sculpture in my eyes. The organic unity of strangers to make something beautiful. For a brief moment the difference between one another is lost, the magic of curiosity, the essence of being human takes over and this experience is created. To share a collective emotion with a group in real time all together in one place is a gift few people get to feel. The concept of interactive is taken to its absolute complexity with its piece. On every level there is a connection, an interaction, a unity made by one person to another.
