How to make a LED Hat!!
Materials:
– Conductive Thread
– 2 LED lights ( does not matter on the color )
– Conductive tape
– A Resistance ( it depends on what you need so your LED’s won’t burn out )
– A small needle to thread with
– A small battery holder w/ two small batteries
– A hat that is easy to sew through ( I believe that a hat with small holes in the back is easy to sew through from my experience )
– A piece of foam to cut out any shape in the center to make it conductive
– 2 Vellastate conductive paper ( its a black silky type of material that is conductive when the two sides touch. One must be ground and the other power in order to work. Cut them short enough so they will not touch when you press them in between each other for the switch to close to cut on the LED lights. )
STEPS:
1) Gather your materials and make sure you’ve sewed before if not… get ready to learn!
2) Think about where you want to place your LED’s on your hat.
3) Grab your small battery holder and two small batteries and place them inside the holder and close it. Grab the hot glue gun and put some of the glue on the back of the holder and place it on the bottom middle of the hat rim as shown in my pictures below.
4) Separate the Power ( red cord ) from the ground ( black cord ). You might have to cut them down due to the fact that you will not need all of the cord. Cut the covering of the wires so you can use them to conduct power.
5) Thread your conductive wire through the needle opening. Begin to sew through the hat flaps above the bottom rim to get it close enough to the wires of power. Sew towards the resistance does not matter what side you use.
6)After that, begin to thread up towards your first LED Cathode side ( or the Anode side if it is not switch ). After the stitching, make a not to keep the LED in place and the conductive wire.
7) Put another piece of conductive thread in the needle and begin to thread your Cathode or Anode ( negative/ ground ) to the first vellastate material which can be placed anywhere on your hat.
8) repeat steps 6-7 for the other LED on the ground side.
9) After the last sew, you should have already cut your foam out in a shape of your choice in the center of it. Place it in between the two vellastate materials. The first Vellastate is conected to ground so is the other one. ( IT’S IMPORTANT TO MAKE SURE THE WIRES DO NOT TOUCH SO USE CONDUCTIVE TAPE!!!!!)
10) Show off your hat š
