Messa Di Voce by Wasan

Messa di voce [ˈmessa di ˈvoːtʃe] (Italian, “placing of voice”) is a musical technique that involves a gradual crescendo and diminuendo while sustaining a single pitch.

By the same name, an an audiovisual interactive stage performance by Golan Levin and Zachary Lieberman. Custom interactive visualization software augments the speech, shouts and songs produced by two virtuoso vocalists in real-time. While it was designed as a performance, the actors in this exhibition could easily be replaced by members of the audience.

This piece stood out to me because it’s fascinating to see sound translated into a tangible, viewable object; the smearing and shifting of shape and color as a representation of sound fabricates a wholly unique synesthetic experience.
