The six fundamentals of art are truly important in order for the piece to be seen as true art or a master piece. The six fundamentals are balance, proximity, alignment, repetition, contrast, and space. Balance is important because you do not want the art to be off scale in some way like the colors are not on the same level or one side is heavier with colors than the other. Proximity and alignment are important because both concepts have to deal with the artist vision being draw on a canvas the way he/she sees the art work. In other words, it has to deal with how straight to curves and lines are the artist has made in their art piece. Repetition can be a bad thing, but in art it can help the viewers try to get into the artist brain by how much times they see a symbol, number, or figure in an art piece. Contrast deals with the colors usually going against each other. Space is how much space is brought throughout the art if there is too much space or too little.
Many artist, well- known artist, have the eye for spotting out extraordinary art due to the 6 fundamentals that were created to help artist know if their work is good enough to be shown off in high-end art galleries. The concept of the six fundamentals came from Australia. It came from Australia due to many artist from there with remarkable talents similar to those in the 1400-1500s. Understanding the fundamentals will help artist and those who are well enough to become famous artist to master the six important elements of being notice in the art world. The art world is very competitive, but only those who really want it will work hard to have the title as a new era artist. I say this because in order to have something you desire, you have to work hard and drive for it no matter what the cost is. That’s what separate artist from the just to do it for fun and those who do it because of the love for it.
One artist that focus and knows the six fundamentals for art is Leonardo Di Vinci. I chose Leonardo due to the fact that his art was not seen as pure art because the rest of the world could not understand why he’ll draw these unknown figures or even the Mona Lisa. However, later on down the line artist began to understand that Leonardo was pure mastery of the arts. I say this because Leonardo used all six of the fundamental design. He focused on the proximity and alignment so the picture will match Mona Lisa face exactly. The contrast of the colors shows the shadows of the picture that was displayed in her features. The space was just enough to make sense of the art. Balance and repetition played together due to the fact that both had to deal with concentration. The repetition is hard to see but her smile makes up for it as does her eyes.
Another artists that uses the six fundamentals in their art is the creator of the scream master piece, Edvard Munch. Edvard Munch picture of a man or lady screaming inspired the movie scream with many sequels. Munch art is a perfect example of the six fundamentals of design because the repetition of the screaming face is shown throughout the painting with the mouth opening shape constantly enlarging around the man or woman. The Balance of the painting is even. The proximity and alignment is spot on because from the art it seems that he took even strokes and thought about the art thoroughly. Contrast of the colors going from dark to light to dark again shows each mood represented by a color. The space in the painting is opened to the world to see what could be the problem; however, closed off to have an imagination.
