This essay discusses the distinctions between data and information. It also highlights the act of organizing data. The organization is at the hands of the artist, but that data is at the hands of everyone. New media artists are handling and shaping data in creative ways. I did find the article a little hard to read, but after the first page, it became very interesting. The article was informative. I was under the impression that data and information were the same thing. I never really paid much attention to all the choices the artist must have made to put the data out there. The paper spoke about how data became a material. I think that Dragulescu’s Spam Plants really exemplified how something relatively meaningless can be arranged to create something beautiful. It really shows how the organization is the important part of the piece and not the spam itself. I think it supports the the argument of the author.
