Howdy, all.
For my final project, I wanted to combine a few elements of our culture that don’t often go together – church, science, and evolution.
To do this, I made a “stained glass” painting of a galaxy that is backlit by various colored LEDs in a particular pattern that I will explain.
Firstly, I coded the arduino and soldered the wires to the back of the frame of the stained glass. Here it is in all its glory:
On the side, there is a photoresistor peeking out. The project is coded to light the LEDs when there is no light sensed. This poses a little irony because stained glass is normally lit up only during the day – but this one will be lit at night by LEDS.
The stained glass before it is lit up:
When the photoresistor is blocked, the LEDs light up. In the upper right corner is blue and white LEDs.
As the lights “flicker” green and red LEDs light up at the bottom right hand corner.
For anyone who is familiar with introductory astronomy, they will notice a pattern in the LEDs that represent a chart called an HR diagram. This diagram was created in the astronomy field to document evolution of stars – cold and bright stars (blue) in the upper right, and hot and big stars (red) toward the bottom. Star evolution takes millions of years, which obviously contradicts common protestant doctrine, but the stained glass kind of brings it full circle.
Thaaaaaaaaaaaanks.
