Twine Reaction

What I found after reading the article and playing a couple of the games is how these games differ from normal video games. To me, video games are a way to escape the real world and live in a fantasy world for a bit where you get to solve problems and do things that aren’t completely related to your everyday life. On the other hand, with the Twine games, I find myself thinking about the real world and my problems through the games. The first game I tried was Depression Quest. Not knowing what to expect, I was a bit hesitant but curious to how many choices the player actually had. Maybe it was the fact that the game was mostly reading and choosing a path but I felt like I was transported into the character’s shoes the way a good book can. And in this game in particular, I felt that it effectively conveyed its message about depression being a constant daily struggle and it captures the difficulty of making decisions by crossing out some of the options. I feel like this is a very interesting form of gaming and I’m not even sure if I would consider it a game or rather more of an interactive story.
