Re: Twine, the Video-Game Technology for All – Double O

What do I say to this article?  Do I attack it as some mindless heartless animal for daring to mention GamerGate.  Do I pick at its attempt to shame the gaming industry for having more male to female developers and it’s not catering to the new female gamer?  No.  No, that’s not what I want to do.  Twine games, being games made using the Twine engine, are games meant to do what games like, Shin Megami Tensei, Mother, Untertale, and even Pony Island do.  It’s meant to make you understand that you as a player have some for of agency within the game world and its inhabitants.  Sometimes, you could be powerless do anything to stop what happens.  Sometimes, you may see how it parodies your life or the life of another.  The thing about the games is that although I do not like these games because there does not seem to be a good balance of story, or immersion within the games that she has made along with her partner developer; I want to see that they do at least exist.  From what the article describes of Porpentine just wants us to at the very least think about games having more than just stab, shoot, kill, death, angst, etc.  It should also have some love and romance human moments, things that make you feel like you are, or were, apart of something.  Kind of like talking to a computer in Fallout 1 and discussing what it means to be human to sentient AI.  You know, stuff that engages the mind and emotions.  I hope that she is able to get through Steam Greenlight, although I’m probably part of the demographic that will not be playing it in his spare time; there is at least 5 people in this world that will play Porpentine’s games.  Also if she thinks Twine’s game pool is bad, she should just see the piss poor games that somehow make it on to Greenlight, let alone pass it.
