Twine Article Response

After reading the article and playing the game Depression Quest, my perception on what video gaming can actually be has totally changed. I really appreciate the importance on highlighting the importance of identity and trying to understand individuals through a game. While the game didn’t feel much of a game but more so as a reading test almost, it also put into perspective that maybe not all games are intended to entertain but some with the intent to once again highlight undervalued concepts and ideas in the world of gaming. When I think of games I think of instant entertainment, a very visual and virtual world with an awaiting journey. Unlike Depression Quest where the most visual aspect will be the Polaroids having to read paragraphs of text at first didn’t seem interesting, but also having the text there reinforced playing the game. Twine’s focus on creating a space to explore identities and ideas that are usually not found in the mainstream gaming world is essential because it allows us to put individuals in others situations and experiences that one might have never experienced.
