The Plausible
Jesse Schell’s whole video is regarding how everything in today’s world has been and could be turned into the function of a game or point system. When you think about it, there is definitely many things that are including points for plane milage, reward systems for spending money at certain stores, even steps one takes using a fitbit and getting calories “back” as points. Schell goes on about saying in the future, one watching TV is going to gain “points” from watching certain commercials or by reading a certain amount on their tablets. This idea of the future is plausible when you think about it because there is censors in everything technology nowadays. If TVs can record your shows then TVs can record and/or sense you watching the commercials for points back.
The Implausible
The general idea of everything pretty much being a commodity is definitely plausible. It is the idea of certain things turned into a point system that may be implausible. For example, the idea of mini screens on pop cans is definitely implausible because the cost it would take it order for that to happen. The only way to efficiently be able to sell that is by increasing the price of the pop can. The increase of the item is implausible because that is something people use for the enjoyment of the taste. The only other way for it to be seen as a “point-system” valued item is by collecting them for a can return in order to gain money back from it.
