Jesse Schell Video reponse

Many of the points that Jesse made were very valid and some of things that he mentioned are already happening.  For example, we are already being monitored through the use of various sensor and other devices to track our internet history, purchases, daily lives, and other activities.  In fact, China already plans on implementing a behavior point system by 2020.  This point system is influenced by behavior like running a red light, not caring for parents, or online behavior, anything,  And this point system can determine a lot of things, like your ability to apply for a loan, flight travel, even schools that your child can go to.  Whether or not this system will actually be implemented is in the air, but the fact that a point system, that forces you to behave a certain way, can dictate so much of a person’s life is unfathomable.  And in response to his points about making everything a “game,” I do not entirely believe that what we are currently doing is making everything a game.  Instead, what I think we are doing instead is making progress visible.  For example, fitness bands and trackers are a way of measuring progress, but the way they are designed is for our goal to make the number be bigger or lower depending on what aspect.  Before, the only way to are able to track how well we are doing is when we actually get to the ideal look, or when we can actually do something that we set as our goal.  But now, we can check the rate at which we are moving towards that goal.  What Jesse describes is a very narrow outlook on what our future can look like.  If our societies were structured a different way, like the point system that China wants to implement, it can very well be our future, but with the current society that we live in, I find his prediction hard to believe.
